How does a Tapeeze card work?

Tapeeze cards are pre-configured globally and activated by the end user through tokenization. The user downloads the Tapeeze app, holds the physical card against their phone using NFC, and links their existing bank card. The card receives a secure payment token via Fidesmo Pay and is ready to use at any contactless payment terminal worldwide. No new bank account is required. Activation takes approximately 60 seconds.

Tokenization explained

Tokenization is a security process where sensitive card data – specifically the Primary Account Number (PAN) – is replaced with a unique digital token. The token is unique to each device and transaction context, and is completely worthless if intercepted by a third party.

When a user activates a Tapeeze card, the Tapeeze app communicates with Fidesmo Pay, Tapeeze’s certified Token Service Provider. Fidesmo Pay requests a payment token from the relevant card network (Mastercard or Visa), which is then provisioned onto the physical card’s Secure Element chip via NFC.

From this point, every contactless payment uses this token rather than the actual PAN. The real card number is never stored on the Tapeeze card, never transmitted during a transaction, and never visible at the point of sale – providing the same level of security as Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Are Tapeeze cards certified for Mastercard and Visa?

Yes. Tapeeze cards are certified for use within both the Mastercard and Visa payment networks. This certification ensures full compatibility with all contactless payment terminals globally – any NFC-enabled terminal that accepts contactless payments will work with a Tapeeze card.

Certification is maintained through Tapeeze’s partnership with Fidesmo Pay, a certified Token Service Provider (Token Requestor) that is directly connected to both card networks. Tapeeze cards are currently compatible with more than 880 BINs across participating banks worldwide.

How is PAN protected?

PAN is replaced by a secure token and never stored on the card.

Does Tapeeze store sensitive card data?

No. Tapeeze does not store PAN data.

How is payment provisioned?

Payment credentials are provisioned onto the Tapeeze card using NFC, via Fidesmo Pay – Tapeeze’s certified Token Service Provider and Token Requestor within the Mastercard and Visa ecosystem.

The provisioning process works as follows: (1) The user opens the Tapeeze app and initiates card setup. (2) The app requests a payment token from Fidesmo Pay. (3) Fidesmo Pay communicates with the relevant card network (Mastercard or Visa) to generate a unique token. (4) The token is written to the Secure Element chip on the physical Tapeeze card via NFC. (5) The card is ready to use at any contactless terminal worldwide.

The entire process takes approximately 60 seconds and requires no interaction from the card issuer.

Are Tapeeze cards limited to payments?

No. They also support access, NFC services and digital keys.
